Petrick Brown Killed in Parking Lot Crash; Second Incident Leaves Woman Injured on Wylds Road Railroad Tracks in Augusta
The Richmond County community is dealing with the aftermath of two separate pedestrian-related incidents that occurred early Wednesday morning in Augusta, Georgia, leaving one man dead and a woman injured. Authorities say both incidents are under active investigation.
Fatal Parking Lot Collision Claims Life of Petrick Brown
According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, 52-year-old Petrick Brown of Augusta died following a collision in a parking lot off Peach Orchard Road.
Deputies responded to the 3100 block of Peach Orchard Road around 5:06 a.m. after reports of a pedestrian being struck. Investigators say Brown was walking through a dimly lit parking area when he was hit by a vehicle traveling through a designated lane.
Authorities reported that the driver stated he did not see Brown prior to the impact. Brown was transported to Wellstar MCG, where he was pronounced dead at 5:44 a.m. An autopsy has been scheduled as part of the ongoing investigation.
Officials have not announced any charges at this time.
Separate Railroad Incident Leaves Woman Injured
In a second incident later that morning, deputies responded to the 1800 block of Wylds Road at approximately 8:23 a.m. after a report involving a pedestrian and a CSX train.
Investigators say a woman was on or near the railroad tracks when an approaching train struck her after she attempted to move out of the way. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Her identity has not been released.
