We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Elder W. Mark Bassett, a devoted General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who faithfully served since April 2016. He passed away on May 11, 2026, following a traumatic brain injury sustained while he was with his family in St. George, Utah. His death is a profound loss to the Church and to the many individuals whose lives he touched through his ministry, leadership, and service.

At the time of his passing, Elder Bassett was serving as Executive Director of the Missionary Department, where he helped guide global missionary efforts during a period of significant growth and change. His leadership was widely regarded as humble, compassionate, and deeply rooted in faith. He dedicated his life to strengthening others’ belief in Jesus Christ and encouraging service, discipleship, and spiritual growth.
