It is with profound sadness that family, friends, and the Chicago community announce the passing of Simon Leonard Ganet, who died on May 9, 2026, at the age of 36 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He passed surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy defined by warmth, humor, and deep compassion.
Simon Ganet was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Larry and Gale Ganet. He grew up in a close-knit family alongside his twin brother Elliot, older brother Max, and younger sister Nina. From an early age, he was known for his kind-hearted nature and ability to make others feel welcome and valued.
He attended Naperville North High School before continuing his studies at Western Illinois University, where he formed lifelong friendships and lasting memories. His life later took a meaningful turn when he met his wife, Anne Hoesly, at The Damen Tavern. Their relationship quickly grew into a deep bond, and they were married on October 2, 2021, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and partnership.
Simon is especially remembered for his ability to bring joy into everyday life. Friends and family describe him as someone who could walk into any room and instantly make people feel comfortable. Whether through humor, kindness, or simple gestures like sharing homemade banana bread, he had a gift for making others feel seen and appreciated.
He was deeply involved in activities and communities he loved, including curling and baseball, and was a member of the Windy City Curling Club, where his passion for connection and teamwork shone through. Beyond sports, he valued friendship, community-building, and spending meaningful time with those he cared about most.
Simon is survived by his wife Anne Hoesly; his parents Larry and Gale Ganet; siblings Max (Caitlin), Elliot (Samantha), and Nina; extended family members; and his beloved nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at Congregation Etz Chaim, with additional gatherings in Glen Ellyn and Oak Park, where loved ones will come together to honor his life and share memories.
